Serra Negra e Rancho Caído

The Serra Negra-Rancho Caído crossing is in the Itatiaia National Park, founded in 1937 by President Getúlio Vargas.

Approximately 46k are covered in 3 days, leaving the Rebouças shelter and going to Visconde de Mauá-RJ, passing through points that overlook famous rock formations in the park, such as Agulhas Negras, with 2,791m, the highest summit in the area, Pedra do Altar, Asa de Hermes, Pedra do Sino and Pico da Serra Negra, and the Aiuruoca waterfalls in the park and the Escorrega waterfall in Visconde de Mauá.

It is suitable for trekkers with good physical conditioning, as the trail is extensive, with approximately 19k.

• physical: moderate-difficult

• technique: easy-to-moderate

The climate in Serra da Mantiqueira is unstable. As it is a higher region, it is usually cooler in the morning and at night, and warmer in the afternoon.
